Mashup (o como exprimir a tope el limon)
Hace ya algún tiempo publicamos un post con una sesión a cargo de un discjockey llamado Party Ben. Este personaje comenzó como dj en emisoras de radio de su San Francisco natal y, rápidamente logró llamar la atención del público por su especial habilidad para realizar "mash-up" (también llamados "bootleg"). Este estilo de remezcla consiste en crear una nueva composición a partir de dos o más temas originales combinando la música y vocales de estos.
El reconocimiento mundial le llegó a este dj norteamericano cuando su "bootleg" "Walking with a ghost in Paris", que utilizaba el éxito "Drop The Pressure" de Mylo y el tema "Walking With A Ghost" de Tegan And Sarah (al que empujó a su reedición), comenzó a ser pinchado por los mejores discjockey del mundo (llegando incluso a remezclar el propio "bootleg") y dió el espaldarazo definitivo tanto a este peculiar género como a los "bootie dj´s" que comenzarón a ser reclamados por clubs y festivales de todo el mundo (recordadísima la antológica sesión de Party Ben en Coachella).
Otros reconocidos discjockey del llamado "bastard pop" son A Plus D, el angelino DJ Paul V. (conocido por sus Smashmixes), los australianos Team9 o Dean Gray (autor de "American Edit" un bootleg completo del álbum "American Idiot" de Green Day").
Sin embargo el experimento "bootie" más relevante fué el polémico "The Grey Album" de DJ Danger Mouse mezclando "The White Album" de The Beatles con "The Black Album" de Jay-Z, que le generó el reconocimiento mundial y del cual las pocas copias existentes (nunca llegó a ser editado por carecer de los derechos de autor) son tremendamente buscadas en las principales casas de subastas online. DJ Danger Mouse es actualmente más conocido por ser la mitad de proyectos tan exitosos como Gorillaz o Gnarls Barkley, donde explota sus habilidades compositivas.
